The Northwest Fire District provides fire prevention and life safety services to the Town of Marana and unincorporated area of Pima County north and west of the City of Tucson. The District enforces the 2006 Edition of the International Fire Code with local amendments. This code is published by the International Code Council and was adopted by the Northwest Fire District Board on September 25, 2007 and the Town of Marana on August 21, 2007. The local amendments are identical for both the Northwest Fire District and the Town of Marana.
The above referenced fire codes are applicable to all new and existing construction. The provisions also apply to all commercial businesses operating within District/Town of Marana boundaries. Provisions in the code include:
- General precautions against fire;
- Fire protection systems
- Means of egress (exits)
- Emergency planning and preparedness
- Fire department access roads and water supplies;
- Fire hydrant requirements
- Fire-rated construction;
- Decorative materials and interior finishes;
- Flammable and combustible liquids
- Hazardous materials
- Motor fuel dispensing facilities / repair garages
- Special occupancies
- Special processes
Local amendments address issues unique to the District’s firefighting capabilities and equipment. These amendments also include provisions designed to address local fire problems identified through a review and analysis of the District’s loss experience. It is also based on the “risk analysis” conducted for the Commission on Fire Service Accreditation.
The Fee Schedule outlines specific fee’s for plan review services, special or additional inspections, variance requests and operational permits. Operational permits are required for tents, canopies, membrane structures, and pyrotechnics displays.
